Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies

Isn't everyone always talking about the perfect chocolate chip cookie?  Not too soft, a little bit of crunch, thick, yadda yadda yadda.  Right?  Well, these come pretty close to perfect.


This recipe is easy and quick and tastes great.  You can sub a few of the chips for chopped walnuts, m&m's, or white chocolate chips to add variety if you want to try something different.  Or keep it classic and simple.

 When I first moved to Tucson, I worked at an all inclusive health resort.  We had a fairly small dessert menu, but we did serve two types of cookies daily.  This is when my love of cookies began.  I used to be a chocolate mousse, chocolate cake, complex dessert girl all the way.  I pretty much ignored the cookie.  It took a year of nothing BUT cookies to get me to take a long hard look at what I had been missing.  


These little handheld treats are not to be underestimated.  I am in love.  Cookie LOVE.

For my birthday this year, I made a few desserts to savor and share.  One of them being a fruit tart.  


I like the crispness of the crust, creamy custard, and the tart fruits on top.  It makes for a rather sophisticated birthday cake, don't you think?

Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day

I recently tried the basic recipe in the book Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day.  You can find the recipe here.  It is strangely simple and delicious.


You basically make a starter and use that as a no-knead bread mix.  It is fast, flavorful, and satisfying.  Even in your small apartment kitchen, without a mixer, you can have homemade bread in 5 minutes.  This doesn't include baking and proofing time, but you can jump in the shower or clean while that's going on.
